Virtual Assistants for US Businesses
The United States is the largest of our four markets, and the one where the timezone question is most often answered dishonestly. We answer it plainly below.
The timezone, without the sales gloss
The Philippines is roughly twelve to sixteen hours ahead of the continental US. Covering your working day means your assistant works through their night.
That is normal in Philippine outsourcing — a mature night-shift sector has existed for two decades — and it is sustainable when it is chosen and paid for properly. It is not sustainable when a provider quietly staffs a day-shift person onto a night-shift account to win on price. Retention collapses, and you find out in month four.
Three arrangements, and what each is actually for:
| Coverage | What it means | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Full US hours | Your assistant works your business day | Phone, live chat, anything reactive |
| Partial overlap | Two to four shared hours, rest asynchronous | Most admin, bookkeeping, e-commerce ops |
| Opposite shift | Work arrives finished when you wake | Production work with a clear brief |
Most US clients over-specify this. Full overlap costs more and narrows who will stay. Ask honestly whether the role needs live availability or just a daily handover.
Employment, tax and classification
You don’t contract with the assistant directly — iFOVS does.
That means no W-2, no 1099, no state registration, no workers’ compensation, no unemployment insurance and no contractor-classification exposure on your side. Your assistant works as an independent contractor of iFOVS, based full-time in our office in the Philippines — never remotely — and you receive one monthly invoice for hours worked.
This matters more than it sounds. Misclassification of remote workers is an area US businesses get caught by regularly, and hiring direct from a job board is exactly the arrangement that creates the question.
Data handling for US businesses
NDA before any system access, individually named logins, access logging, and office-based work with controlled screens. For healthcare clients we will sign a Business Associate Agreement — see healthcare support for what that does and does not settle.
State privacy laws including CCPA/CPRA place obligations on you as the business, not on us as a vendor, but the controls above are what make meeting them practical.
Roles US clients hire most
- Real estate cold calling and inside sales agents — the single largest category
- Transaction coordinators for agents and brokerages
- Medical virtual assistants and billing support
- Insurance verification
- Executive assistants for founders and partners
- Live chat and customer support
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to register anywhere or file anything?
No. We are the employer of record in the Philippines. You receive an invoice for services.
How do I pay?
Monthly, in US dollars, against hours worked.
Can they call US customers?
Yes. The Philippines is the strongest offshore market for voice work with American customers — accent neutrality is high and cultural reference points are largely shared.
What about US public holidays?
We work your calendar, not ours. Tell us which days you observe.
Is Latin America better for US hours?
For roles needing live, all-day, real-time overlap — often yes, and we say so in our comparison. For most support work the Philippines is stronger on English, cost and sector depth.
